The Newport Police Department is asking for help in tracking down two suspected jewelry thieves.

Investigators have obtained felony arrest warrants for Benjamin Joel Brooks, 32,  and Jordi B. Clevenger, 25, both of Newport.

Police believe they may have been involved in several smash and grab burglaries of jewelry stores and pawn shops in Newport in recent weeks.

"We are also seeking assistance from anyone that may have purchased jewelry from either Brooks or Clevenger in the past weeks or anyone that may have seen either of the pair in possession of large quantities of jewelry," said Police Chief Maurice Shults in a news release.

Brooks and Clevenger may be driving a maroon Chevrolet Suburban with a driver's side rear glass broken out, or a white Ford F-250.   The pair are known to be traveling in upper East Tennessee from as far north as Elizabethton and as far south as Gatlinburg.

If you have any information, your asked to contact your local law enforcement agency or Cocke County Central Dispatch at 423-623-8777.
